Principles of this exercise:

  1. Goal-oriented
  2. Actionable
  3. Manageable
  4. Effective

Week 1: Two Word Exercise

What do you want your two-word brand to be as a designer? This is your reputation. Think of this in the same way that we view our Values as a design team.

For example, if you said you want to be known as a “brilliant jerk”, we may need to dive into what that means to you. We’ll then dissect each word into a mind map to see why they chose each word. This reveals each person’s values and motivations and forces them to introspect on what’s important to them as seen through the lens of their peers.

Action items during the meeting:

  1. Designer explains their brand
  2. Aaron mind-maps during the conversation

Questions for me to ask here for each word:

Once the mind map is created, you playback to the individual what you heard.

As a knowledgeable enabler, you want to be seen as someone who is approached by others because you know your stuff! You get asked a lot of questions and are the go-to person. You are available and approachable. You also are knowledgeable by learning - you try new tech, read up on current tech, and try out new things.

As an enabler, you are someone who mentors others, offers support to others, and has a lot of patience when helping others. You will do things like present information at Frontend Firesides to spread knowledge to have a multiplier effect.
